Solid copper is cast, not chemically purified to laboratory purity, and that casting process always leaves a small trace element behind. RTC Laboratory in Moradabad measured 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc in our products, according to ASTM-1621 and IS-228. That small share of zinc is simply part of pure, solid copper and isn't added afterwards; it doesn't make the product any less pure or any less suitable for skin contact.

Smooth copper has an even, calm surface with a clear, mirror-like shine. Hammered copper is worked by hand into a pattern of small facets, so it catches the light differently and the surface gets a livelier, handcrafted character. The material and quality are identical for both finishes; it's purely a matter of taste.

Wash the product by hand with water and dry it well right away; the dishwasher isn't suitable for solid copper. For drinkware: always rinse thoroughly with water after use. To remove stubborn buildup, fingerprints or a dull shine, rub the copper with a slice of lemon and some salt or use a copper polish, then rinse and dry well afterwards.

So there's nothing that can wear off or flake away: with normal use and care, it lasts for many years. Scratches and patina are part of the material and don't affect its function; you can polish the surface back to its original shine at any time.
