Why copper

What pure copper does for you

Copper has been used for thousands of years to drink from, to wear and to care for the body. Research now confirms why: the metal is naturally antibacterial, an essential mineral for your body, and it measurably changes the water it touches.

  1. Kills bacteria on contact

In laboratory tests, cleaned copper killed more than 99.9% of bacteria such as MRSA and E. coli within two hours.

    EPA registration, 2008
  2. Changes the water it touches

In one study, water kept in a copper vessel for sixteen hours was completely free of bacteria and had a measurably higher pH.

  3. A mineral your body needs

Copper is an essential trace element, involved in your energy metabolism and the protection of your cells.

  4. Copper works with your skin

Your body makes GHK-Cu itself, a tripeptide that holds on to copper and stimulates collagen and elastin. Wound dressings with copper oxide are cleared by the US FDA and have been in medical use for over six years.

  5. Lasts a lifetime, and then another

Copper loses none of its properties when it is melted down. Most of the copper ever mined is still in use somewhere.

Where it comes from

Copper deserves a place in your day again

For centuries copper was a matter of course in drinkware, jewellery, care rituals and gardens. We are bringing that versatility back in products you can genuinely use.

Kopero does not choose between measurable material knowledge and older or energetic traditions. It is precisely the combination that makes copper so fascinating, and it leaves everyone room to find a ritual of their own.

Frequently asked questions

Does copper discolour over time?

Yes, and that's normal. Uncoated copper reacts to air, water and touch, developing a brown to dark surface patina. That's not a defect but a sign of real, solid copper. Want the original shine back? Simply polish it up; leave the patina alone and it will deepen naturally over time.

Have your products been tested?

Yes, by two independent laboratories. RTC Laboratory in Moradabad measured the composition and arrived at 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc, to ASTM-1621 and IS-228. URS Products and Testing in Noida put a water bottle, a mug and a pyramid against the European rules for materials in contact with food: overall migration, odour and taste, nineteen heavy metals, and lead and cadmium in the material itself. Everything passed, and not one of those nineteen metals was detectable in the water that had been standing in the product.

What should I keep in mind with a copper bottle?

Three things, and we would rather name them up front. You wash a copper bottle by hand, not in the dishwasher. It takes on its own patina over the months, precisely because there is no coating over it to prevent that. And still water is what goes in: lemon water, anything carbonated and sports drinks are acidic enough to dissolve copper faster. That is exactly the difference from a coated bottle: here you drink from the solid metal itself, and with normal use that lasts for years.

How long does shipping take?

We ship from Sunday to Friday. Order before 11:30 pm and your parcel goes out on the next shipping day, so a Saturday order leaves on Sunday. Deliveries are made Monday to Saturday, not on Sundays. Across Europe it usually arrives within three to five days; to the Netherlands and Belgium it usually arrives the next delivery day. Shipping costs vary by country: they are listed in our shipping policy and you also see them at checkout, before you pay.

What if I'm not satisfied with my order?

You have a 30-day cooling-off period. If it doesn’t suit you, send it back and you’ll get your money back. If you use it for longer than you need to judge it, we may deduct for loss of value. See the refund policy.
