Lovely cup, exactly the size I was looking for.

Why copper works
Kills bacteria on contact
Changes the water it touches
A mineral your body needs
Long used for skin and recovery
Three hundred millilitres, no more
No cap, no handle, no thread: a straight copper cup you finish in one go. The smooth wall keeps the whole thing as quiet as it can be.
Small enough for a bedside table
Seven centimetres wide, nine and a half tall. It sits beside a bed or on a shelf without asking for space, which is exactly what the evening ritual needs.
What you actually get
The cup is the original form of tamra jal. Before there were bottles with screw caps, a copper cup of water simply stood beside the bed in the evening and was drunk in the morning. Three hundred millilitres is exactly what you finish in a swallow or two.
That also makes this the simplest way to try the ritual. No cap, no thread, no corners where water sits: fill, leave, drink, rinse and let it dry upside down. Where the habit comes from is set out in the article on tamra jal.
The cup comes smooth and hammered. Smooth keeps the surface even and quiet; hammered is worked by hand and carries its own pattern that breaks the light. The copper underneath is the same either way.
What to watch out for
Fill the cup with still water. Carbonated water, lemon water and other acidic drinks dissolve copper faster and belong in glass. Do not leave water standing in it for more than a day either; the ritual is one night, not one week. On how much per day, see this article.
Hand wash, no dishwasher. Warm water and a soft cloth are enough; lemon and salt polish the shine back. The full routine is in the care article.
Discolouration is part of it. Pure copper without a coating grows darker the more you use it, and it can always be polished back. Why is my copper turning green or black explains what you do and do not need to do.
What makes this special
The most original shape
Of the whole collection, this open cup stays closest to the classic Ayurvedic shape: compact, easy to hold and free of frills.
300 ml of solid copper
No coating, no inner lining. You use and clean the material exactly as it is.
Independently tested for food safety
Tested to European food safety standards; both the migration and odour/taste tests passed. Read the full study under What does research say about copper?
Smooth or hammered
Only the surface differs. Smooth gives a calm, mirror-like surface; hammered is hand-worked into a lively pattern.
A colour change that comes with pure copper
Solid copper changes colour a little on its own as you use the cup. That's completely normal, and even a sign of pure, uncoated copper. If you prefer the shine, simply polish the cup with lemon and salt. Exactly how is in the care guide.
99.21% copper, measured independently
The material is analysed by RTC Laboratory in Moradabad, a NABL-accredited lab, tested to ASTM-1621 and IS-228. The measurement came out at 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc. That zinc is not an additive but a residue of the casting process: it makes the copper marginally stronger and changes nothing else. Food safety is covered by a second report, from URS Products and Testing, tested against EC 1935/2004, EU 10/2011 and REACH.

Simple in shape, strong in material
See why this copper cup works just as well in your morning ritual as it does on a set table.
RTC Laboratory measured 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc under ASTM-1621 and IS-228. This zinc comes from the casting process and isn't an added extra.
Smooth feels calm and minimal; hammered catches the light in a lively pattern.
The cup was tested to the relevant European food safety standards; the migration and odour/taste tests both passed.
Your cup arrives in an elegant velvet pouch and a sturdy Kopero box.

Frequently asked questions about this product
What's the best way to use the cup?
Of the whole collection, the cup stays closest to the original Ayurvedic shape: open, easy to hold and easy to clean. The most common ritual is to fill it with still water in the evening, cover it with a small plate, and drink it empty the next morning, but the cup works just as well for everyday use at the table.
Can I use the cup for drinks other than water?
You can, although water is the most common and best-researched use. Avoid very acidic drinks like pure citrus juice or vinegar-based drinks, as these attack the copper faster than neutral water. Don't leave any drink in the cup for longer than a day.
What's the difference between the smooth and the hammered finish?
Just the finish: material, a 300 ml capacity and quality are the same. The smooth cup has a calm, mirror-like surface, while the hammered cup is hand-worked into small facets that play with the light and give the cup a bolder, more handcrafted look.
Can the cup go in the dishwasher?
No, rinse it by hand with warm water and a soft cloth and dry it thoroughly right away. The heat and harsh detergents of a dishwasher leave dull, uneven patches on solid copper.
The cup is discolouring, what should I do?
No problem: that's completely normal, and even a sign of pure, uncoated copper. If you want the original shine back, simply polish the cup with lemon and salt. Step by step instructions are in the care guide.
Not what you were after? No problem.
You have a 30-day right of return. Copper does take some getting used to: it tarnishes, it feels heavier in the hand than stainless steel, and now and then you will want to polish it. Give it a few weeks. If it is still not what you were after, send it back and get your money back.
