The ratio. The two sizes stand in almost exactly the golden ratio.
The finish is about the look. On the smooth pyramid the edges run calmly and unbroken to the apex, so the geometry itself carries the image. On the twisted pyramid the copper runs up each edge as a visible spiral, a second movement laid over the first.
