The lid sits loose and lifts straight off. That makes filling and cleaning easy, and it keeps dust out while the water stands overnight.

Four to five glasses from one jug, with a spout narrow enough not to spill and a handle that stays cool enough to hold.

What you actually get

The jug is the household size: 1.4 litres, enough to pour four to five glasses. You fill it in the evening, let it stand, and pour for everyone at once the next morning. Where that practice comes from is set out in the article on tamra jal.

It has a matching copper lid, and that is not decoration: water left on the counter overnight is water left open overnight. The lid keeps dust and insects out. The spout is narrow enough to pour without spilling, and the handle stays cool enough to hold.

The jug comes smooth and hammered. At this size the difference is easy to see: the smooth surface gives one continuous reflection, while the hammered piece spreads the light across dozens of small facets.

What to watch out for

Still drinking water goes in the jug. Fruit juice, squash and carbonated water are too acidic for copper. Refresh the water daily rather than leaving it standing for days.

Wash jug and lid by hand and dry them straight away; standing moisture is where the first marks start. A colour change that comes with pure copper

Solid copper changes colour a little on its own as you use the jug. That's completely normal, and even a sign of pure, uncoated copper. If you prefer the shine, simply polish the jug with lemon and salt. Exactly how is in the care guide.

The material is analysed by RTC Laboratory in Moradabad, a NABL-accredited lab, tested to ASTM-1621 and IS-228. The measurement came out at 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc. That zinc is not an additive but a residue of the casting process: it makes the copper marginally stronger and changes nothing else. Food safety is covered by a second report, from URS Products and Testing, tested against EC 1935/2004, EU 10/2011 and REACH.

How to recognise real copper

From the matching lid to the sturdy handle: discover the details of the Kopero jug.

RTC Laboratory measured 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc, the same ratio as the rest of the Kopero drinkware. This zinc comes from the casting process and isn't an added extra.

The domed lid fits exactly into the rim of the jug, with a wide knob that continues the shape and lifts off easily.

The handle is firmly anchored at top and bottom, clearly visible at the two rivets.

Settled in, in six steps

From the first clean to setting out water for the whole family.

    Clean the jug first

    Before first use, rub the jug and lid with lemon and salt. Rinse thoroughly and dry both parts right away.

    Fill it with still drinking water

    Just water. No juice, no fizzy drinks and no acidic drinks.

    Set the lid on

    The lid keeps out dust and rests loosely on the jug. Lift the jug by the handle, not by the lid.

    Let the water rest overnight

    Set the jug out in the evening and pour in the morning. Drink the water within 24 hours.

    Wash it by hand

    Warm water and a soft cloth, lid separately. Dry both parts right away and store the jug open.

    Polish it when the shine fades

    Every one to two weeks with lemon and salt. On such a large surface you'll notice the patina sooner, so take your time polishing it section by section.

How many people does 1.4 litres serve?

The jug is meant to provide water for the whole family at once: 1.4 litres is enough for several glasses or cups. Set the jug out in the evening and pour everyone a glass the next morning.

Can I put juice, tea or a fizzy drink in the jug?

No, only use the jug for still drinking water. Juice, carbonation and acidic drinks attack solid copper faster than neutral water and aren't suited to longer storage in copper.

How do I clean the jug and the lid?

Rinse both parts separately by hand with warm water and a soft cloth, never in the dishwasher. Dry the jug and lid thoroughly right away and store the jug open so the inside can dry. Lift the jug by the handle, not by the loose lid.

What's the difference between the smooth and the hammered jug?

Just the finish: the same shape, the same lid, the same spout and the same handle, but in smooth copper the vessel looks calm and understated, while hammered copper gives the large surface extra texture and shine.
