This set of 4 copper electroculture antennas is placed in a flower bed, vegetable garden, or beside a pot, following the tradition of electroculture: a way of gardening practiced since the mid-eighteenth century. Available in 30 cm and 60 cm.
The antennas are made entirely of 100% solid copper, including the rod itself — not just the coil on top of a wooden stake. This makes them more durable than versions with a wooden stake, which can decay over time, and also means you have more total copper (and therefore more conductive surface) in the ground. It's the same independently tested copper quality as our drinkware: 99.21% pure copper.
The first reports of electrified plants date from 1746, when Dr. Maimbray in Edinburgh electrified myrtle shrubs for a month and saw new shoots and flowers appear. Abbé Nollet reported to the French Academy in 1749 about mustard seed that germinated faster. In 1904, Finnish physicist Selim Lemström built on this tradition, inspired by the rapid tree growth in the far north; for nearly every crop he treated, he measured higher yields, up to about one and a half times the expected output. French inventor Justin Christofleau brought the method to a wide audience in 1925 with his book "Électroculture" and his metal garden rods.
Recent history shows how seriously this approach is taken. The British Ministry of Agriculture ran its own Electro-Culture Committee from 1918 to 1936, which reported yield increases of 30 to 50% in field trials. In China, a government-funded electroculture program is running in greenhouses covering more than 3,600 hectares combined: the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences reported 20 to 30% higher vegetable yields there, with 70 to 100% less pesticide use. And in 2022, researchers published a study in Nature Food in which peas under a self-generated electric field germinated 26.3% faster and yielded 17.9% more.
Copper itself is no stranger to plants: it is an essential micronutrient, involved in photosynthesis, among other things.

A colour change that comes with pure copper

99.21% copper, measured independently
The material is analysed by RTC Laboratory in Moradabad, a NABL-accredited lab, tested to ASTM-1621 and IS-228. The measurement came out at 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc. That zinc is not an additive but a residue of the casting process: it makes the copper marginally stronger and changes nothing else. Food safety is covered by a second report, from URS Products and Testing, tested against EC 1935/2004, EU 10/2011 and REACH.

Unbox the antennas
Check that the coil at the top is still nicely round. If it's bent during transport, gently bend it back.

Choose the spot
Place the antenna by the plant you want to treat, on the sunny side and out of the way of foot traffic. Keep some distance from the roots. Indoors, just place one antenna in the pot of a houseplant.

Push it upright into the soil
Press the antenna about 8 to 10 centimetres into the soil, until it stands firm and doesn't tip over. Press on the stem, not on the coil.

Keep the coil clear
The coil should stick out above the plant and stay free of leaves and netting.

Spread out the four antennas
Place them around a bed, in the four corners, or use one antenna per pot. There's no fixed spacing.

Leave them in place
Copper is weather-resistant, so the antennas can stay outside all year, even in winter. They'll develop a green patina; that's normal.

Wow, my basil suddenly took off. Much fuller leaves, and it didn't bolt straight away like it usually does. Really happy with it.
Honestly, I didn't expect much, but my strawberries are clearly putting out more new leaves. The four antennas are each in a different planter now.
Since I put one next to my pepper plant, it finally seems to have woken up. New shoots, a sturdier stem. Could be coincidence, but I'm certainly not taking it out again.

My tomatoes have grown ridiculously well this year. The plants stand sturdier and I already have more flower trusses than around this time last year.
I was mainly curious about insects and nibbling. The leaves around the antennas stay remarkably intact and the young plants keep growing undisturbed.
