Copper gets as hot as whatever is in it. That is why this mug has a handle and the cup does not: you pick it up by the grip, whatever the finish of the wall.
Four hundred millilitres on your desk
A generous cup of coffee or tea, or a portion of water that can stand overnight. The hammered version has the same felt base, against scratches on wood.
What you actually get
The mug is the only piece of Kopero drinkware with a handle, and that changes what you use it for. Copper conducts heat quickly, so a hot tea or coffee warms the wall within seconds. With the handle you still pick it up as normal.
That same conductivity works the other way round just as well: cold water in a copper mug feels cold in your hand almost at once. It is a mug you notice.
Four hundred millilitres is a generous cup of coffee or tea, or a portion of water that can rest overnight in the tamra jal tradition. More on that in the article on tamra jal.
There is felt on the base. That saves scratches on a wooden table and it saves noise when you set the mug down. Beyond that you choose between smooth and hammered: an even surface, or a hand-worked pattern that breaks the light.
What to watch out for
Black coffee and tea are fine. Lemon tea, sharply acidic fruit tea and soft drinks are better avoided: they attack copper. Do not store anything in it for more than a day either.

Only the surface differs. Smooth keeps the silhouette calm, hammered gives the surface more depth through a handmade pattern.
A colour change that comes with pure copper
Solid copper changes colour a little on its own as you use the mug. That's completely normal, and even a sign of pure, uncoated copper. If you prefer the shine, simply polish the mug with lemon and salt. Exactly how is in the care guide.

The material is analysed by RTC Laboratory in Moradabad, a NABL-accredited lab, tested to ASTM-1621 and IS-228. The measurement came out at 99.21% copper and 0.75% zinc. That zinc is not an additive but a residue of the casting process: it makes the copper marginally stronger and changes nothing else. Food safety is covered by a second report, from URS Products and Testing, tested against EC 1935/2004, EU 10/2011 and REACH.

Clean the mug first
Before first use, rub the inside and outside with lemon and salt, rinse thoroughly and dry it right away.

Fill it with water, tea or coffee
The mug suits hot drinks. Avoid very acidic drinks and don't leave anything in it longer than a day.

Hold it by the handle
Copper conducts heat quickly, so the wall gets warm with a hot drink. Hold the mug by the handle and set it on a coaster.

Or let water sit overnight
If you want to use the mug for the Tamra Jal ritual, fill it in the evening with still water and drink it the next morning.

Warm water and a soft cloth. Keep the felt base as dry as possible and dry the mug right after.

Can I drink coffee or tea from the mug?
Yes, that's exactly what the mug is for. Just keep in mind that copper conducts heat quickly: the wall gets hot with a hot drink. Hold the mug by its copper handle and set it on a coaster instead of placing it loose on the table.
Can I also use the mug for the Tamra Jal ritual?
Absolutely. Fill the mug with still drinking water in the evening and drink it the next morning. Avoid acidic drinks like lemon water or kombucha for longer storage, and don't leave anything in it for more than 24 hours.
What's the difference between the smooth and the hammered mug?
Material, a 400 ml capacity and the solid copper handle are the same for both. The smooth mug keeps the silhouette calm and even, while the hammered mug gets extra depth from the handmade pattern of small facets on the surface, while the handle stays smooth and comfortable to hold.
Can the mug go in the dishwasher?
No. Rinse the mug by hand with warm water, keep the felt base as dry as possible, and dry the mug straight away. Detergent and the heat of a dishwasher leave dull patches on solid copper.
The mug is getting darker, what should I do?
