Copper Tongue Scraper Guide

The tongue scraper is a small, daily ritual right before brushing your teeth. Below is how to use it, and how to keep it clean.

  1. Clean the scraper first. Before first use, polish it with lemon and salt (not too hard: salt is mildly abrasive and dissolves well in the lemon juice), rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry it off.

  3. Start at the back of your tongue. Hold the scraper by both ends and place it as far back as feels comfortable. Don't go further than that.

  4. Pull forward in one smooth motion. Repeat three to five times and rinse the scraper under water in between. Then rinse your mouth.

  5. Don't press. Light pressure is enough. Stop if you feel pain, irritation or sores, and don't use the scraper on a damaged or inflamed tongue.

Untreated copper can become a bit duller over time. That's normal; polishing once with lemon and salt (not too hard: salt is mildly abrasive and dissolves well in the lemon juice) restores the shine.

The velvet pouch

A velvet pouch is included. Keep your copper in it when you are not using it: that saves scratches and keeps the air off the metal, so the shine lasts longer. Put it away dry. If you see pale fibres on the velvet, they are sitting loose on top and a lint roller lifts them off in a few passes. There is more on that in the velvet pouch.

How the shine lasts longer

Polishing brings the shine back. To hold on to it, a hair-thin layer of wax keeps the air off the metal and stretches it from days to weeks. That is what how to keep copper shiny is about.
