Copper Water Jug Guide
The jug is made of solid copper, with a matching lid. Below you'll find how to use it for the first time, how to let the water rest for the whole family, and how to keep it clean.
In six steps
-
Clean the jug first. Before first use, polish the jug and lid with lemon and salt. Rinse thoroughly and dry both parts right away.
-
Fill it with still drinking water. Water only. No juice, no carbonated or acidic drinks.
-
Put the lid on. The lid keeps dust out and rests loosely on the jug. Lift the jug by the handle, not by the lid.
-
Let the water rest overnight. Set the jug up in the evening and pour the next morning. Drink the water within 24 hours.
-
Wash it by hand. Warm water and a soft cloth, lid separately. Dry both parts right away and store the jug open.
-
Polish when the shine fades. Every week or two with lemon and salt. On a large surface you'll see the patina faster, so take your time and polish it in sections.
Patina is part of it

Solid copper changes color slightly on its own as you use the jug. That's completely normal and actually a sign of pure, uncoated copper. On a larger surface like this jug, you'll notice it a bit sooner than on smaller drinkware. If you prefer the shine, simply polish the jug up with lemon and salt.
Cleaning

Never use a dishwasher or harsh cleaning products. Half a lemon with a pinch of salt is enough to make the jug shine again; work in sections on a large surface. Rinse well and dry the jug and lid right away.
The heat and dishwasher detergent attack the copper and leave dull, uneven patches.
